LV : Morning! PI : How are you doing? LV : Pretty good. How can I help you? PI : I'm just lookin' for a little informatiun. Uh ... I'm -- I'm Don Lloyd. LV : I'm Leonel. PI : Nice to meet you. Um, thinking about getting a pilot's license, and didn't know if you might could tell me ... kinda give me a little insight on ... how to go about that. LV : His name's -- PI : Can I set down? LV : Yeah, sure! His name's Ted Scott. PI : Ted Scott? LV : Yes, sir. He's a flight instructor from Andrews. PI : Andrews? LV : Yes, sir. He comes up every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. PI : OK LV : He's our flight instructor, him and Wendell Turner. Both of 'em are, but Ted's the one that teaches you some and then he hands over, I think, Wendell. PI : Right LV : Both of 'em are great flight instructors. PI : Now, is there one here ... I thought there was a flight school here. LV : There is, but that's Light Sport. PI : That's what, I'm sorry? LV : Light Sport PI : Yeah, well I, that's kinda what ... I don't wanna ... I'm retired, and I just wanna get up and fly occasionally. Uh, don't want to ... you know, I know that the Sport license is like you don't fly at night and, and things of that nature, and I wouldn't be flying at night anway. LV : I would still talk to, uh, Ted -- PI : Still talk to them over there? LV : -- and Wendell PI : OK. LV : 'Cuz ... I'm, uh ... He has a bad review, the guy who does Light Sport. He doesn't have a good review here. PI : He doesn't? [background TV noise] LV : There's people that have over a hundred hours and they still haven't soloed. PI : Really? [background TV noise] PI : Ah ... It doesn't take that long to get a Sport license, I didn't think LV : Ah ... should be somewhere within ten fifteen hours -- PI : Yeah LV : -- but there's people have been doing' it for over a hundred hours ... PI : Yeah LV : Uuuhhhhh ... He does not have a good review, so ... Us, comin' from the Pickens County Airport, we don't refer him, ... If we refer him, something goes wrong, that come back on us. PI : Gotcha LV : But I can refer you to -- PI : Him LV : -- Ted Scott PI : Would it be better just to go over to Andrews and talk to him, probably? How -- When's he over here? LV : He's over here Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. -- PI : Oh. Got you, got you LV : -- He's here. He spends the night in his van or he spends the night here locally -- PI : Right LV : -- and he has Light Sports as well. If you want to do a Light Sport, he trains you on a Light Sport. PI : Got you ... Got you. LV : He has ... either airplane ... He gots 3 or 4 airplanes he uses. PI : I was ... I, I kinda went online, like everybody else does these days, and had kinda picked the, uh, a Jabiru ... ? LV : Yeah, it's a Jab -- PI : Yeah LV : His Jabiru is [pause] Like I said, I don't refer him because he's the guy that had bad reviews. PI : Right? LV : His Jabiru's out right there, ... that's broke. It's been broke for the past three months. Ted would show you in one like that. PI : Well the reason I was -- I was kinda ... and, and like I said I was kinda doin' research online ... I, I think everyone probably does that nowadays -- but the tailwheel plane seemed like it was -- LV : It's a Bushcat PI : -- it was easier to, to navigate. LV : Well, those right there are easy to navigate ... I don't think you have any pedals or anything, you just kinda steer it. PI : Right PI : OK! LV : That one right there. And like I said, he has one that's tailwheel in his hangar, that white one, and like I said, I don't refer him because somethin' goes wrong -- PI : Right ... That'd come back on y'all. LV : -- [inaudible] But we do refer Ted Scott. 'Cuz he's had ... He graduated from him -- PI : Oh LV : We have several people -- PI : Right LV : -- that have Light Sports through him, and they've gone out, bought their little Light Sport airplanes -- PI : Well, that's somethin' else I'm thinkin' ... If I can get my wife talked into it ... That's the reason I'm kinda doin' a little research ... Um, I just didn't know about the maintenance and things like that, as far as the upkeep ... LV : I can give you his number ... Ted Scott's number ... You can talk to him, like I said. This other gentleman ... Uh, there's been occasion where we had one customer here, he got twelve thousand dollars out of him and never gave him his license or the, the solo -- PI : Oh, Lord ... I don't wanna spend that much! LV : That's what I mean, y'know. PI : Yeah LV : You know, I'd just rather be honest with you -- PI : Well, I appreciate that! LV : -- than guide you the wrong way, and ... you know ... Let me get a sheet of paper and give you his number. You call Ted Scott. PI : OK PI : Do you guys have a mechanic here or anything like that? LV : Yes, sir. His name is Garrett Cobb. PI : Garrett ? LV : Yes, sir. He's in the next hangar to that white one. PI : Can I just walk down there? LV : Yeah, you can walk -- PI : I'd just like get an idea what I'm lookin' at cost-wise on maintenance of a, like, a Jabiru. 'Cause if it's ... its, uhhhh ... if it's gonna be, you know, a ton o' money, then I gotta convince the wife, you know what I mean? LV : [inaudible] Not a ton o' money, it's just ... Gotta get the right people to help. PI : Oh, I understand. I appreciate it. ... LV : Leave him a voice mail, -- PI : OK LV : -- because sometimes he don't answer -- PI : Right LV : -- but, um, he'll return your phone call. PI : OK LV : Just talk to him, and tell him what you wanna do -- PI : Right LV : -- and he'll guide you the right way. PI : OK! All right, and your name was ..... ? LV : Leonel. I'm the security guy here. PI : Thank you, Lenonel. LV : Yes, sir. PI : Appreciate it! I just make myself at home? LV : Yes, sir! Walk over there, and his name is Garett Cobb. PI : All right. Thank you. [door opens] [rustling noises] - end transcription 08:00 -
